Chapter Meeting
The Ixia Chapter is taking its usual summer break so we will not have chapter meetings in July & August. The next chapter meeting will be on September 9. We will be returning to the Garden Club of Jacksonville for our monthly chapter meeting beginning with the September meeting.

Field Trip to Julington Durbin Creek Preserve
August 8, 8:00 am to Noon
Julington Durbin Creek Preserve, 13130 Bartram Park Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223
Ixia Chapter Director at Large Adam Arendell will take you on the four-mile White Blaze Loop Trail to explore the pine flatwoods in search of late summer wildflowers, shrubs and grasses. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn about Florida native plants and how to make plant identification.
Julington-Durbin Creek Preserve is a 2,031-acre nature preserve operated by the St. Johns River Water Management District and the City of Jacksonville Parks and Recreation Department. The preserve has over 450 plant species documented by FNPS members, including the rare Bartram’s Ixia wildflower.
Meet at the kiosk by the picnic tables.
Participants should dress for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, water, snacks and any other items you may need for an outdoors walking event. A hat or cap is also recommended.
The event is free and open to the public. No RSVP is required.

Call for Artists - Floribunda
Deadline August 15
The Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, in collaboration with CoRK Arts District, is excited to announce that planning is underway for the return of Floribunda this October!
Celebrating Florida’s unique biodiversity through art, Floribunda brings together artists whose work is inspired by native plants, natural landscapes, and the wild beauty of Florida. If you missed the opportunity to participate last time, now is your chance!
The Call for Artists is officially open now through August 15. Artists will be notified by September 1st if their work has been selected.
Are you an artist, or do you know one, who incorporates native plants, naturescapes, or wild Florida into their work? We would love to see your submission.

Native Park Workday
Please Note Different Date this Month
August 15, 9:00 am to Noon
Native Park, 3306 Park Street, Jax 32205
We have monthly workdays, usually on the first Saturday of the month, in our adopted Native Parks to remove weeds and perform other maintenance. Come anytime and work for an hour or two. Bring gloves, water and any other refreshment & snacks you like. Dress for the weather & wear closed toed shoes. You will learn about native plants and meet people with shared interests in gardening and native plants.
We will also be harvesting seeds for our Seed Collective Project. Come out and learn how you can participate in collecting and sharing native plant seeds.
No RSVP is required; free and open to the public. Tours of the park are also available.

Why What You Plant in Your Landscape is Important

Jane Higgins, an Ixia volunteer, will give a presentation of Dr. Doug Tallamy's program titled Why What You Plant in Your Landscape is Important. Dr. Tallamy is a renowned entomologist at the University of Delaware. In this presentation, you will learn about the science that shows how wildlife is completely dependent on native plants for their survival.

Floribunda Art Show Opening Reception

Floribunda, an art show celebrating Florida’s unique biodiversity, is presented by the Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and CoRK Arts District.
Join us for a wonderful evening in celebration of Florida’s native flora and wild places. This curated roster of contemporary artists will feature some aspect of Florida’s natural history, flora, and fauna. A portion of sales will be donated to the Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society.
